Horror Poem: love bites
A dark take on the “From Across The Room” vocal poetry contest— because love at first sight can be downright predatory
tremble—
softest lips— the sight makes me wonder!
the door falls shut and so do my teeth
tremble—
alone
you still haven’t seen me
the snake twitches in my mouth,
curiosity,
…venom
WHAT IF I LET THE SNAKE SLITHER ALL OVER YOUR SUGAR-JUICE LIPS
would you moan and writhe?
i know you well enough to say this for sure: you’d really let it all out if my snake gave you a bite
TREMBLE
the door—
still fucking shut
But. Not. Fucking. Locked.
my teeth creak open and gnaw my own lips raw
A copper-salt leak springs from the cracks
my fingers clench to stop my eyes from shaking
all the better to see you
my stupid, pretty dear
tremble
i am invisible
and i am in love…
i chew the juice from my scars like a gusher
i wonder
yours don’t look gnawed and gnarled like my old things
yours are soft and mild, a lovely tender dream
wouldn’t they taste better
wouldn’t yours be soooo good to devour
my eyes are my pleasure I treat them with care
i set them on the window but continue to stare
the juice runs down my chin and i decide
it is time
to go down
and cross the street
About the Creator
Sam Desir-Spinelli
I consider myself a "christian absurdist" and an anticapitalist-- also I'm part of a mixed race family.
I'll be writing: non fiction about what all that means.
I'll also be writing: fictional absurdism with a dose of horror.
