Where the heart is

Moving through unknown

places areas confounded,

yet the roving eye discerns

unfamiliar familiarities.

-

Brickwork a callback

architecture recognisable,

a sudden jolt to the heart

reminding you of home.

-

Aimlessly wandering

through crowded squares,

the bass of a booming laugh

it’s cadence carrying through the crowd.

-

A miasmic scent wafts to your nose

the heady scent of the fields,

pungent aromas

puissant pernicious.

-

We find reflections of home

in the most unsuspecting places,

unsettling the settled

a reminder of the distance now alone.

-

Though homeS are certainly

static bastions of warmth,

unmoving islands

in the sea of society.

-

Home however is not

does the tree appear fully grown,

roots spread out foundation laid

or do they grow with the taste of new soil.

-

Are eggs laid on bare branches

or are nests loving built,

stick by stick

placed with discernment.

-

So yes Home is a page

in the chapter past,

yet it is also a future title

Home is always in you.
