Home Sweet Home

a poem of where the heart longs to be

You wake to the feeling of sun on your face,

Softly filtering through your curtains.

You wake to the smell of fresh crisp air,

Seeping through an open window, billowing the curtains softly.

You hear the flying fowl perched outside your window,

Singing their tunes of tweets and whistles, a symphony to be sure.

You dress in clothes meant to be worn and abused,

Clothes ready to work as hard as you do.

You walk into your kitchen,

Small and rustic, pioneer like, the hearth of your home.

You consume the fresh bread, eggs and milk,

Organic delicacies unmatched in flavor.

You head outside to tend to your chores,

Sometimes seeming never ending, but always rewarding.

You feed your livestock, milk the animals, collect the eggs,

And reap the fruits of your hard labor.

A constant reminder of why you chose this life.

You pause on your front porch,

Glancing around the expanse of your property.

You take in the tilled fields, the outbuildings, the livestock grazing,

It brings a sense of peace and completion never felt to you in an urban setting.

You take a deep breath, feeling the warm, clean air fill your lungs,

Bringing calmness and vitality to your very soul.

You know that this is where you belong.

You know that this is home sweet home.
