Home, Sweet Home

what home means to me

By Julia WallerPublished 5 years ago • 2 min read

I know a place that always made me feel warm,

Sheltered me from the rain,

Kept me safe in the midst of a storm,

Its a good place where a sisterhood was born,

A bond

A place where hugs and sweet words made my tears disappear

As if with the wave of a wand

All the way up Carter Street,

Last house on the right

A place where it always seemed like the sun shined extra bright

The place where i fell in love with music,

A love that'll last my whole life

The place where my Mom inspired me

A dream to become a mother and wife

My house-

Where i learned that i loved coffee with milk and sugar

And my mom made the best hot tea

Where I learned the importance of loyalty-

Where i first felt what its like to be able to trust someone when they say they got me

Where i learned the concept that my siblings can get mad and call me names

But they got my back if anyone else made that mistake

In my house, I was surrounded by realness and that's the reason it bothers me

To be around when people are fake

in that house i fell in love with fashion as a little girl,

Where my moms love let me know i'm more precious than any diamond or pearl

My house where tulips grew in the front yard

and i would pick lilacs for my mom

on the way home from school

To see her smile

where every Valentines day and Easter

We would wake up to the sweetest gifts and candy

Mom always went the extra mile

The house i grew up in,

My house-

I'm so grateful for where i learned how to Love

And that loving people is so important

And that Love comes from god straight up above

My house where there was always plenty to eat

And my mom taught me the importance of being generous and hospitality

My house where i learned to Love all people-

No matter their complexion or nationality

The house where we had the best dogs and cats

And a weeping willow down the street

The house where my mom taught me that Jesus loves me so much

And id never find a Love quite so sweet

Where i learned about honesty, hard work, Loving my family, being real and being loyal

And because i am a Child of God, no matter what street i grew up on,

Because of Him

Therefor i am Royal

My home-

The house i grew up in-

Full of love lessons and prayers

impacted the Woman i have become

That home, to me is priceless,

a place i was blessed by

i am grateful that home on carter street

is the place that i am from.
