When I think 'home', I'm of two minds

I think ‘home’…

I am of two minds.

Childhood, free and daring

Summer sun and blowing fields

Of grass and fireflies and random pleasures.

Climbing trees and riding our pony,

Playing baseball, barefoot and wild,

Dressing for Sunday church and lunch out.

Mom and Dad, still young and vibrant

Grandmomma and Pop, the anchor and the jokester

Siblings exploding with energy and excitement and

All things good and delightful

And all things ferocious and crazy

Home….

Adulthood, quieter but daring still

To reach the heights I painted in my mind

As that wild child

Days full of song and laughter,

Games and grace

And some pain, too

Because life is, if nothing else,

A balance.

Nights of star-gazing, finding

Just the right image to paint

The picture of this day in my memory.

New goals, new ambitions

We are Mom and Dad now,

Grandmomma and G’Daddy, too,

We are the anchor and the jokester.

Children and grandchildren

exploding with energy and excitement and

All things good and delightful

And all things ferocious and crazy

Because life is, if nothing else,

A balance.
