Home Lives in the Little Things
Home isn't just one place, but can be in a million
When the coffee pot bubbles to life in the morning
where the fog is heavy
when rubbing away at sleepy eyes
clutching a mug close
and curling up to watch the rain are the only expectations
When night rolls in
where the quiet melts away
the chaos from the day
when brushstrokes
keystrokes
the delicate hum
of a refrigerator are the only sounds
When the car pulls over a hill
and all you can see is glittering ocean
where all you can smell is salt on the breeze
you can close your eyes
and just breathe
When you can only hear turning pages
where their feet shuffle
where they’re tucked under your thigh
when you look up during a pause to smile
and a friend does the same
when you don’t need to fill the empty air
and being present is a gift enough
When you can start singing
and maybe its more than a little off key
but where it doesn’t matter how it sounds
where someone’ll laugh
and then just join right in
When time seems to slow
where the smell of something soft
sugary and warm is making itself known
where you can stir the bowl and lick the spoon
When the timer doesn’t really need to go off at all
but you’ll be excited when it does
Where you feel safest laughing, crying
Where you’ve done both at the same time
Where wifi connects automatically
and you don’t even need to use it
Where you don’t need to do anything
but you feel comfortable doing everything
Where beginnings bleed into endings
and your stories start to blend and blur
Where time could be meaningless
or space could implode
Where life means the absolute most
