Home Is Where The Heart Is

Fear The Night

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

the floorboards announced his arrival

groaning with every step that he took

they pondered the chance of survival

as they read the room, much like a book

the air was as thick as the thieves in the room

that had come to take whatever might please them

their heartbeats measured the depths of their doom

clueless to the impending mayhem

now the house had strange reputation

seemed to some, it had a life of its own

given the right time and situation

could startle its heart made of stone

rumor has it, it has a taste for the wicked

craves the blood that an evil man bleeds

welcomes in the cruel and committed

the ones needing judged for their deeds

so it leaves a light on to allure them

a safe haven from the troubles that be

then gobbles them up like a breadcrumb

it's been said, they taste best, when they scream

so if you're walking the line of redemption

beware of the house on the hill

there is little room for your salvation

the only warning you get is a chill
