An Ode to History

This is no ode,

To a once former abode.

Though to a former wife, I'd much rather say;

Yes, it was all my effort that caused the delay.

All my day-dreaming and thoughts of grandeur,

Pushed us west into a new home leaving us poor.

It wasn't always that bad, I know you'll recall;

Cause while I was in grad school, we did have a ball.

It was just bad timing, don't you see, come near the end;

Given September 11 - 2001 - there was no way I could ever defend.

So, to you my dear former wife, I must apologize;

Please know, my early love, there were never any lies.

Yes, there were half-truths and not all history lay bare;

But, you my early love, always made home, feel beyond compare.

T'was knowing all this, from our time together,

Given all that we did experience and truly whether;

I could see a future again, that in one year hence,

We'd be together again - another home, some where new - in which we spared no expense.
