an ode to those who long to spread their wings

When will I get to make a house a home?

Build something lovely and fully my own?

Where lost hearts are sheltered and nurtured and known?

When will I make a roof and four walls a home?

<>

I will build something safe, on foundations of stone,

Where life’s storms cannot find us, never battered or blown,

Where our souls can be mended, every stitch with love sewn,

I will build something enduring, on foundations of stone.

<>

I'll build walls with kindness, and watch how it’s grown,

I will fill it with goodness, work my fingers to bone,

In time, my people will find it, and know they’ve come home,

I'll build walls with laughter, and watch how they’ve grown.

<>

When will it stop feeling like my life is on loan?

Lonely for dreams that are not yet full grown,

Let me get my hands dirty and reap what I’ve sown,

Let me build it and fill it, and make it my own.
