A warm welcome at the door.
Dinner in the oven,
The dog sprawled on the floor.
The washing piled high.
Kid's grubby fingerprints,
Mum ironing nearby.
A bag for his head.
A photo of his child,
Held as he lays in a tent.
A heartbeat in the womb.
Warm and safe,
Connected as two.
A tin shed on a farm.
Tears of joy from rain,
The whole town shares a yarn.
The rise and fall of his chest
She lays and listens.
The lullaby of his heartbeat,
Puts her to rest.
A canopy of branches.
A playground for monkeys,
Safeguarded from hunter's glances.
Crammed in with no space.
All of them together,
Share a familiar face.
Confused and scared,
A child enters the house.
A couple awaits,
hopeful and prepared.
Home is shelter.
But more than a feeling.
It's a sense of belonging,
It keeps you believing.
Even in peril,
Where a home is less,
Home is wherever you lay your head.
