Silence

Shhh…

When I get sand between my toes

The little pieces of grit rub together

Lilies blossom

The flame flickers

(I don’t have athlete’s foot, now!)

A pleasant ache runs up my leg after

Circling English Bay for two hours

Caw

Caw

Caw

When I am home alone, I do the laundry

The light bounces on the wick

A bit of detergent

Drips

Drips

Drips

Onto the hardwood floor

But I’ll clean that mess up

A chubby candle is burning and the pleasant aroma of

Apple cinnamon wafts up my nose

Red, brown and yellow smoke

Reaches the drab ceiling

Birds sing

I’m strummin’ my guitar

working on my co-ordination

La

La

La

My neighbours have my songs all memorized

The candlelight burns in the morning

The librarians can be fed up all day, I guess

But every time I go to the library,

The neighbourhood perverts

all seem to have left

Maybe they all went to the swimming pool

Sploosh

Sploosh

Sploosh

The candlelight burns in the afternoon

I stare at the red roses on the counter

I dodge the thorns

The candlelight burns in the evening

And I wiggle my toes

Ahhh…

surreal poetry
