HANGING OUT WITH THE FAMILY

A capsule of insecurities

Between broken words and evil memories.

Home was the whirlwind of emotions felt on cold nights

The horrid thoughts crossing through my mind.

It was my fight or flight.

Closed doors and dark drives

Arriving "home" to shut eyes.

Faded jeans and broken soles

Half eaten meals growing mold,

Just another excuse for my ribs to show.

A cold bed and cold shoulders

With a fist full of tiny shorts as I got older.

My nightmares were reality,

And that's what home was to me.

Time has passed, memories did fade

They became distant but never erased.

Then came along my saving grace,

Hair wild and untamed like a lions mane.

Voice so calm and mundane, she kept me sane.

My home was always a person and never a place,

I call her Jay.
