A Tribute to Family
DEDICATION: For Justin (Surratt); September 17, 2021. I know what's going to happen. I've just been informed. So, remember, please, these words that come from my own heart. But truly know that you are always thought of, by family, friends and those whose lives you've touched in many ways. You may not know this or what awaits you. But know that a mother's touch can ease your pain and she is on her way to you, speeding along a country road, with your own friends to lend support. The separation decreases with the few hours ticking away. Less time she has with you but closer to you she gets.
Home is about family:
parents, siblings, children; and,
the love experienced within.
Home is about friends,
so closely knit, and
the bonds shared therein.
Home is sometimes the workplace,
when I'm with my coworkers daily.
Home may be outdoors, in nature,
where I feel the most alive.
Is it fair to say?
Yes, I find home everywhere.
To me, home is not a place;
Home is a feeling I sense.
Home is what I feel:
Life, Love and Death.
Yes, each is inevitable,
Expected as adults,
Not by children,
Maybe as parents.
Elders seen departing;
Our children growing;
The latter hoped,
If not prayed,
We'd only see.
Truth be told,
It's not hard getting old.
The hardest part?
Feeling home disappear,
As we lose our Loves,
Our parents so dear,
Children and babies,
That we thought,
Would outgrow us all.
