Holy Land
A free-verse poem about my "home away from home"
Israel waited for me,
welcomed me with open, loving arms
hugging, praying, kissing, and dancing with me,
every time I sojourned to The Holy Land.
Israel is my home
away from home.
Jerusalem is my safe spot
the silent cave I’ve always lounged in.
Kibbutzim and kfarim
remote, natural, sacred, and novel
areas that are rich in plantation,
and homes that are warm with kindness,
gratitude, and togetherness.
Hummus and falafel
My favourite, homemade savoury dishes
that I’ve always devoured and ingested
like a famished woodpecker
in The Holy Land.
