Hole in the Tree

Hole in Our Hearts

Hole in the tree

Hole in our hearts

From where they departed

Leaving it scarred

Squirrels make it home

Birds make a nest

We lay our loved ones blindly to rest

Yet they sleep in a lively place

Only lonely from the human race

People forget

And get busy with the wind

Never to step foot on the ground of their dead friends

It's quiet without voice

It's loud with other noise

Shrubberies rustle with birds

Almost sounds like footsteps

Maybe that's what I heard

Because the deceased still walk this wretched world

You can find them in the flowers in the hair of that girl

In the silence and the trees as they twirl

from the same breeze

that pushed their livelihood away from those people that prayed on their knees for their timely release

I guess they were too busy to keep up with anything but their own beasts

Yet, in the stillness of the sun

And the little remembrances of love

I feel surrounded in a place

Filled with death and decay

A wholesome companionship

Without the demanding shit

Everyone alive follows a script

In here, I wonder if it was worth it

Few come to visit

Few care to know

The pasts of the lives that already put on their show

We could learn from their mistakes

Put on our breaks

And honor the ones who made someone's life great

If they won't

We should

No one needs to be eternally misunderstood

So I'll drop by whenever I can

And find peace with the skeletons buried deep in our land

At least I know when I see

Those butterfly wings

And hear the buzzing of bees

That our bodies turn in to all the beautiful gardens right underneath our feet

Hole in the tree

Hole in our hearts

Let's all take care of the memories

Before our own holes turn dark
