Hold Tight to Hope

It’s what gets us through the tough times

Life was never meant to be easy,

In fact, some days are bloody tough,

Days that floor us, beat us bloody,

Convince us life is horribly rough.

🤞

We wonder if we’ll ever rise once we’ve fallen,

Will we ever heal from the torrent of pain?

Wounded, shattered, impossibly broken,

Will we ever experience happiness again?

🤞

But on those days when we feel downtrodden and beaten,

Hold on tight to a little thing called hope,

Dig your fingernails in tighter, refuse to let go,

And I promise you it’s all you’ll need to finally cope.

🤞

See hope is awe inspiring, magical and beautiful,

It gives us the little glimpses into freedom from the sorrow,

A timely reminder to hold on fast, you will succeed,

If you’ll just patiently ride hope into tomorrow.

🤞

Hope is that sunrise in the morning, uncovering the majestic blue sky,

It’s in each breath you inhale and then exhale,

Minutes of life that are yours to readdress,

And it’s in the nighttime hours when you notice life’s minute detail.

🤞

Hope is in the smile of a perfect stranger,

Gifted to you in a frozen space of time,

An outstretched understanding of what it’s like to live,

A connection of hope so dearly sublime.

🤞

Hope is within the vibration of a cat’s purr,

A tiny heart beat of pure adoration,

It’s in the tweeting of a bird’s chorus,

A celebration of mother nature’s creation.

🤞

Hope is in the echo of a loved one’s voice,

It’s the dreams we hold dearly within our heart,

A memory of a passionate lover’s kiss,

And the knowledge that where there’s life, there’s the ability to restart.

🤞

Hope is the itch we struggle to scratch,

The plans that are just out of reach,

The promise of tomorrow when we say goodnight,

And the lessons of wisdom we still need to teach.

🤞

Hope is the whisper of the breeze on a heated day,

The cool water that quenches our thirst,

The loving arms that hold us tight when we are at our lowest,

And the prickle of goosebumps when we feel the worst.

🤞

Hope is the sorrow and the empathy for another,

It’s the pain of loss but the belief we’ll meet again,

The tears of love that flow so freely,

And the tickle of bubbles on our lips as we sip life’s champagne.

🤞

Hope is in the little details often missed,

The giggle of a toddler when doing wrong,

The humming of the bees going about their day,

The tinkling of a crystal pure voice launching into song.

🤞

So my friend, on the days when you’re feeling low,

Hold on to hope with everything you have left in your beaten, bloody heart,

For now holding on to hope is the best you can do,

And soon you’ll awaken to the wonder of the world and the despondency will part.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

For me , I think of a vision on what want it to be until it become a reality. I keep making new vision when the past vision come true. Keep making life dreams and focus on positive . If we look back on negative , our mind stay stuck to that reality. 🥰hugs dear friend

  • And the people cry out, "How long must we hold onto hope before we see its fruition?"

  • My friend, you are so hopeful about hope so I'll keep the cynic in me tied up, lol. I just hope the world would be a better place one day!
