Hit The Road

Freedom here I come

Hit The Road

The engine hummed beneath the sky,

As distant fields rolled drifting by,

A restless heart could wait no more,

For roads unseen and something more.

The city shrank behind my view,

Its crowded streets and people too,

Ahead stretched miles of open land,

Freedom waiting hand in hand.

Each mile marker passed with grace,

Like memories falling out of place,

The burdens carried far too long,

Faded with each travelling song.

Rain tapped softly on the glass,

Watching old reflections pass,

Thoughts that once refused to leave,

Finally loosened from their sleeve.

The road curved through both hill and plain,

Away from worry, loss and pain,

Leading somewhere still unknown,

Toward a life to call my own.

Golden mornings greeted dawn,

Long after darker nights had gone,

The horizon widened with each day,

Inviting weary souls to stay.

No map could tell what waits ahead,

Or where the winding path has led,

Yet every turn revealed a sign,

That better days may still be mine.

So I keep moving, mile by mile,

Meeting life with a hopeful smile,

Following where the road may go,

Trusting what tomorrow shows.
