His Time to Shine

Patience was the key

Someday he’s going to shine in his own glory,

And at that stage of the game there will be many that fold with regret,

He’ll stand tall with the biggest grin gracing his face,

Forgiving you but promising to never forget.

🪽

You see, you deserted him when he was at his lowest,

Believing he was scrapped and forever no good,

But it was the tough times that you were not aware of,

And you judged him harshly just because you could.

🖤

Well, now he walks the hallways of the holy,

A crown upon his head belongs as he faces the crowds,

Seldom does he weep as his existence now shines,

As he graces the earth, once descending from the clouds.

🪽

He rides the shotgun bullet to your tomorrows,

Holding on for dear life knowing he’s won the battle,

A newborn to heroics, smashed between wants and dreams,

Ignorant to your judgement and worthless prattle.

🖤

Shivering with undulating wisdom and desire,

Showering all those in close vicinity with love and worth,

Shouldering their crippling pain behind walls of steel,

Gifting them a new start, a paternal rebirth.

🪽

Feet covered in worry and anxiety,

Clothed in a fashion as old as the hills,

Worn and trodden aground with every sordid step,

As he swings his metaphorical sword to combat his kills.

🖤

Bathed in the beauty of the new dawns golden rays,

He stands obediently waiting for your eyes to turn,

Slowly he arches his eyebrows with the wickedness of smiles,

And claps loudly as he watches you burn.

🪽

He has won the story that you spread as rumours,

Marched to the beat of his own bass drum,

Soured by expectation thrust upon him,

Surprising all by what he overcome.

🖤

Don’t listen to the doomsayers words,

He’s on a pedestal as he just deserves,

His wings spread against the darkening skies,

In his element now as he bows and serves.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
