Higher Level

A poem

Building walls instead of bridges

Drifting apart instead of drawing closer

Insults instead of tender words

Straying into the swamps instead of the city road

For a closed mind can never commune with an open world

As the echoes of yesterday reach me

Lies are circulating

In new colours and shapes

Twisting and transforming into something entirely different

Looming on the horizon

In the gaudy colours of a parrot

Speaking the new language of the future

“We aren't there yet,” they say

“But we will surely get there someday”

And it will be so magnificent and glorious

That we will forget all the sorrows of the past

That led us to this place

To a whole new level, without a doubt
