Click, thud, click, thud

One heel perfect, the other a dud

Flicker, on, flicker, off

Bulbs need to be changed in the lights of this lot

My shadow blinks in

and out of existence

Howling, the wind---

or something more insistent

A shiver begins,

Don't be silly, you're fine

Lub-dub, lub-dub

Your heartbeat or mine?

Wait, is anyone around

or am I mistaken?

My shoes strike the ground,

lot's otherwise vacant

My God, my car

never seemed so far

Why did I walk away

alone from that bar?

In one broken pump,

in this broken down dump

of a town---what was that?

Did something go bump?

I swore some other girls

left right when I did

Another car here,

there's no one inside it

The streetlamp by mine,

there's someone beside it

I turn tail and run

Don't even try to hide it

I've played these games

only once before,

but I'm not meeting that guy

leaning against my car door

One thing occurs

for which I didn't account---

he's got a buddy who was ready

once I turned around.
