Hey! Roger, Jim!
ever tune out arguments as a kid? Two brothers are playing "war" while their parents fight in the background
“Hey, Roger, Jim! Say, loud and clear!
Can see you there from over here.
It looks like mom and dad will yell
And scream; but our game’s going swell!
Just sneak under the table there,
And I will get behind this chair.
Pow! Pow! Ha, ha! I got you, Jim!
Now I play dead; for now, you win.
Hey, Roger, Jim! Say, loud and clear!
Stay quiet; mom and dad will hear.
Now get behind our dad, and poke
His back with this. Ha! what a joke!
Mom starts to laugh, and dad to yell,
And still, our game will go on swell.
They’re getting mad, but I am glad
For me and you, it’s fun; not bad.
Bleep, bleep! I heard Dad say that word,
And Mama cries…I’m feeling bored.
Hey, Roger, Jim! Say, loud and clear!
I think that we should interfere.
This arguing has gone too far,
And now our game is at a draw.
I wish our mom and dad would see
What fun we have when we agree.
It isn’t fun to play our game
When they are always giving blame.
Hey Mom, and Dad, we love you so!
We hate to see you angry, so
We thought that we should tell you that
And hope that you will both respect
Each other, ‘cause we want you to
Be happy, kind, and good as new.
Hey, Roger, Jim! Say, loud and clear!
Is that our mom and dad I hear?
They’re crying, but I don’t know why.
They’re hugging; kissing. Do you know why?
Apologizing, ah, I see.
They really do want to agree.
I’m tired of our game, now. Hey!
Let’s talk to them, instead of play.”
