Held by Yesterday, Lifted by Tomorrow
when I forget that I have already survived

My roots breathe in the dark,
quiet but alive—
a pulse beneath the soil of my past.
They remember everything:
the tears I hid,
the prayers I whispered,
the moments I thought were endings
but became beginnings in disguise.
They hold me steady
when the world feels too big,
when fear presses close,
when I forget that I have already survived
so much.
But my branches—
they sing to the open sky.
They rise with every sunrise,
hungry for light,
hungry for the version of me
I have not yet met.
They bloom in places
I once believed were dead.
They promise
there is still time to grow,
still space to breathe,
still dreams waiting
just beyond the horizon.
And here I am—
rooted in memories,
reaching toward miracles.
A living bridge
between where I began
and where I am going.
I am not finished.
I am unfolding.
Held by yesterday,
lifted by tomorrow—
becoming myself
one tender inch at a time.
