I sing the song of my mother
her love and her steadfast hands
always crafting and baking
and memory making
turning in to my best friend.
I sing the song of my father
his duty and sense of self
always choosing the right thing
while the world is beguiling
and showing me how to use my hands.
I sing the song of those who passed a long
long long time ago.
who cherished the ways of the sun and the sky
and the waves that crash to-and-fro
I sing the song of my soul and my heart
and the green green grass of homeland
My hearts as red as this clay
while I’m making my way
learning my heart song is who I am.
