Heard At The Hammer Girl Funeral

Inspired And Submitted To The After It's Gone Challenge

By Marc OBrienPublished 6 months ago • 1 min read

My dear departed hammer girl

Wearing window-shopping pearls

Today we say goodbye

Honoring your best try

Getting goals

But life is so cold

Time to send you below

You know

Underneath a ripping wreath

Departure we grieve

And believe

United West Hams are in a better place

Making the case

Playing under

Creating thunder

Due to many premiering blunders

When all is done

Pondering who won

Sporting books collecting bucks

Proclaiming good luck

Bubbling cheer

Sharing a former prime minister’s beer

You can handle

This flaming candle

Now playing the right level

Honestly, no longer meeting the red devil

West Ham, we will miss you

Feeling blue

I am being true

But in the end

We will defend

Their offensive attacks

And get back

Resurrected from the second tier

No longer going to hear

Chants of relegation fear

Since upon return

Leaving the EFL Championship urn

Strengthening, maturing, lesson maybe learned

Allowing to be earned

Another shot at a Championship League term
