Headspace

A troubled mind

Headspace

In my own headspace, I wander alone,

Sometimes it’s bright, a world I’ve known.

Day or night, it feels just right—

Until the gloom creeps in, dimming the light.

Dark and morbid, scary and stark,

Do we all drift into this shadowed park?

Or is it just me, here and there,

Caught in a tangle of thoughts I wear?

The gloomy parts bring the past alive,

Days long gone, yet they still survive.

A darkened cast over memories’ glow,

Pulling me back to where I don’t want to go.

The brighter bits, I feel like me,

But I don’t stay long—I flee too quickly.

Criticizing myself, I pick apart,

Body too fat, mind heavy at heart.

Soon enough, I’m back to the gloom,

Filling my head with a shadowy room.

Do you do this, or is it just me?

Am I warped to want to dwell in misery?

Perhaps it’s human, this ebb and flow,

A dance between the highs and the low.

But maybe, just maybe, the light can stay,

If I learn to shoo the dark away.

Or should I kick the darkness out

Then there’ll be only the light to talk about
