He Made Me Do It
There was no way out he said he would kill me poem 4 of 5

He Made Me Do It
He made me do it,
That is what I said,
While all of his orders
Still lived in my head.
He made me frightened,
He made me obey,
He took every choice
And threw it away.
He stood like a prison
Between me and light,
Controlling my morning,
Controlling my night.
He threatened the people
I loved and adored,
Then blamed me for shaking
Behind every door.
They asked why I stayed there,
Why didn’t I run?
But fear has great power
When hope has all gone.
It locks every window,
It swallows each sound,
It ties up your courage
Without any bounds.
He made me do it,
I carried the blame,
Until I grew stronger
And spoke out his name.
Now one door is open,
And daylight appears,
I step through it slowly,
Still carrying years.
But each step is mine now,
Each breath belongs too,
He made me do many things,
But leaving—I chose to do.
