He’ll Help You Feel Worthy

He’ll stand with you through it all

He rambles when he’s nervous; a bad habit of his,

But the fact he talks at all is a testament of his inner strength,

He’d rather hide away from the world, gifted in his solitude,

Until destiny pushes him to be his best self; branded at length.

**

When you search the depths of his eyes, you’ll be surprised at what you see,

There’s a determination built within that is impossible to resist,

His heart will cause a meltdown if he was to open it for free,

So study him carefully, you’ll be devastated at anything you missed.

**

I guarantee his smile will make you weak in the knees,

Adorable tiny crinkles that adorn the outer edge of his eyes,

Mirth his greatest drawcard, I promise you this,

Gift him with kindness and you’ll be awarded such a prize.

**

When he offers his goodbye, many a heart does shatter,

A loss so monumental that the heart breaks forever,

Years of torture will be endured from the saddened loss,

And you’ll never find a more loving heart whatsoever.

**

Pride roughens his shoulders as he carries his load,

Years of roughshod hardened his skin to smooth leather,

Muscles toned by the war lived through in his past,

And yet he’ll stand by your side and always fight together.

**

His gentleness depicts a man of turmoil and unforgettable pain,

A man that has lived a thousand lives of twisted sorrow,

But when he wraps his arms around you, you’ll sigh in relief,

Knowing he’ll cover you regardless of your destined tomorrow.

**

His values are incomparable to most of the human race,

Selfless in many ways that make for a better day,

Tussled emotions wary of promises lightly made,

And he’ll hold you at arms-length until he knows he can trust all you say.

**

If he classes you as a friend, then you are surely a friend indeed,

Because he’s relatively choosy in those he labels as such,

But once you’ve earned the title, you’ll never be alone again,

He’ll bend over backwards to make you happy, nothing will ever be too much.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

May men like him have all the happiness in the world. But then again, do such men exist? Lol. Loved your poem!

  • Your first stanza sounds exactly like me. The rest, not so much, lol. But when you find such a one, be true to them, whether male or female or other, for you will never find a truer friend.
