He Lit the Match

a year ago she thought sheโ€™d found the ending,

thought she held the final page

of youโ€ฆthemโ€ฆforever.

thought she found precisely how to reclaim

what was thought youโ€™d taken away.

so subtly she thought it never even existed.

oh couldnโ€™t she have been more wrong

you seeโ€ฆ

He Lit the Match.

thinking heโ€™d be the end of her

a smile in his eyes when it all went up in flames.

a smirk on his lips after a grand performance

but it was then she got a taste.

her power.

but then she went up in flames.

smoke choking

clouding anywhere she gazed.

so much loss amongst those flames.

but underneath it all there she remained.

he lit the match you seeโ€ฆ

and she went up in flames.

as he stood and watched as nothing was left of who he claimed.

under the red moon

something there in the ashes would stir

the moment he looked away.

there in the dark itโ€™d seem

something new regained

up from the rubble she would rise

a form she begged to believe

the version who finally understood that it was not in vain

a force to be heard, who wasnโ€™t once afraid

though itโ€™s all new, everything was the still same.

he lit the match, but she arose through the flames.

heartbreak
