He Groomed Me

He groomed me slowly,
With careful lies,
He studied my weakness,
He studied my eyes.

He called me special,
He called me his own,
While quietly cutting
My way back home.

He bought me kindness,
Wrapped up in smiles,
Then moved every boundary
A few little miles.

I thought it was love,
I thought he cared,
I never saw danger
Standing right there.

He knew I was lonely,
He knew I was young,
He placed all his poison
Upon my tongue.

He taught me silence,
He taught me shame,
Then made me believe
That I was to blame.

He changed every answer,
He twisted each word,
Until my own feelings
Could hardly be heard.

But grooming is not love,
However it starts,
Love does not frighten
Or imprison hearts.

He groomed me slowly,
But now I can see,
The fault was all his,
It never was me.
