Haunted Eyes

In the Crypt of Despair

By Rick Henry Christopher Published 3 years ago • Updated 4 months ago • 1 min read

In the dark grave shadows called home

A tortured man carries his burden

A heart so heavy, a mind astray,

As he tends to his mother, night and day.

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

Looking deep into her haunted eyes

He witnesses his mother's decline

Her cries for help are a piercing sound

Into a loneliness in which he is bound.

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

The day is now forever night,

The calling of death puts up a fight.

Somewhere she's lost in a soul full of turmoil

He's losing his grip in his mother's uncoil

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

In the silence of their dim-lit room

Echoes of laughter are now covered in gloom

He is a prisoner in this ceaseless chore

A son's devotion to his mother evermore

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

The world outside revolves uncaring

He's trapped in a nightmare endlessly staring

Each day a terror a descent into madness

As he tends to her needs in a reality of sadness.

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

He whispers to her though she cannot hear

His true words of love said with a tear

He longs for a break for a moment of rest

But his life is entwined in this endless caress

☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎

In the bed of despair he finds strength once again

For love knows no bounds it's endearingly constant

Though his path is weary and his heart a heavy stone

He'll care for his mother until the day she's called home
