If I were a tree

Blooming, blossoming in spring

You would be the axe.

//

Flare in fullness now

Wither me ‘neath cloudless sky

In heat, you are rage.

//

Red cheeks, golden sighs

Tired shade meets stripling sweat

Bitten blade grows dull.

//

If I were a stone

Etched with love and frost, you’d rest

Swaddled in my roots.
