HARRY MADE A BAREBACK RIDER

The very first Dire Straits album/cd is famous for Sultans of Swing. But to me, the best song on there is all the rest of the songs. a thought about one in particular kept popping into my thoughts-IN THE GALERIA. It is a story about Harry-a sculptor/artiste that created masterpieces, but none paid attention to him-it was not what people thought of as masterpieces or great works of art, BUT there were limitations not of his own making that left him out. I feel this way and I wondered how to write what I was feeling and I was mulling it over in my mind as I fell asleep last night. Somehow, I was able to recall/recreate my thoughts and put it to pen:

Harry made a bareback rider

Thousands upon thousands of words,

like thousands upon thousands of chips...

from broken rock and dreams

lay scattered round our feet.

It was said Harry worked in "clay and stone"

Not the fashion of the day

marking a great sculpture wrought

Of kingmaker's stone not noble "clay"

"Clay and stone"

Earth and bone.

But we work with what life gives us,

none sit at our elbows

feeding meal or advice

of what's right.

An artist is when followers find you..but.

if you are never found,

are you less an artist?

less a writer...

less a poet.

To be the baker,

must we fit the offering in the mold?

Do we forsake the taste...

to be free from the cold?

They say Harry passed away,

..then all the vultures landed wings asplay

to pick the meat

With no fear of being discrete.

Is this what it takes?

...Where is the strength to be a Harry?
