Happy Asteroid Day!

Trip to Meteor Crater, AZ

I stand over a massive lake,

The scar of impact left by a fragment from space.

I can see the tsunami of earth spread wide

From a tiny rock they have yet to find.

🪨🪨🪨

Wedged deep into the larger planet,

Changing its face when a rock expands it.

Like the stone that sunk deep into Goliath’s head,

You struck the giant, but not quite dead.

☄️☄️☄️

You were hurled here from far away,

Creating destruction where you lay.

An alien invader that came from space,

Inside you, blunt minerals that gravity made unsafe.

👾👾👾

You tore a hole right through the land,

Your cousins passed from hand to hand.

My mind ignited by your origins,

And if the larger one is coming for our sins…

☄️☄️☄️
