Happiness

Poetry

I come from darkness

from what I thought everlasting night

from a stinging palm on my skin

from seeing more wrong than right.

I come from brokenness

from a young mother and an absent father

from new homes and fading faces

from considering myself just a bother.

I come from insight

from knowing and seeing too much

from finding school my haven

from craving and wanting love.

I come from loneliness

from tears that formed melodies

from a family I couldn't trust

from only songs that saved me.

I become light

a beacon for the lost

a fighter for the defenseless

a comforting hand for the broken.

I become change

a determination to find happiness

a solid no to temptation

a fight against my demons.

I become acceptance

a growing self-love

a pair of open arms for others

a face that understands their pain.

I become a happy ending

with many trials in between

with an ending goal and a dream

the light at the end of the tunnel

the hope in a world of despair

the place that made all the journey

worth it.
