Hand of God
Red, leathery skin
A small fire of each pore
The eyes
In the center with words in black
Long, swirly Arabic -
A terror
That unabashed unknown -
To the grim portraits
Black and white -
Faceless, nameless
Behind it -
Saddled, reined in by
The handsome,
White man
(Intro to visual biographer
Much more palatable with THAT kind of face).
1 Earnest face
A man in an ill-fitting jacket
Holds his chin
A smile?
A laugh?
2 Revealing
Pearly whites
Holding his face
Head like some
Sear’s model
Almost candid
Eyes down
3 Blurry
But recognition
Of concern
To imagine
These brown eyes
Staring listlessly
Earnestly back
4 A far-off look
The wind hits the bottom
of the white
Silk curtain
Back up against
The chair
Lost in thought
5 Another ebb -
And flow,
Blur
A sudden jolt
Out of the chair -
Unspoken, unknown
Servant to the master of purpose
