Hail to the King

A Weekend With Bruce Campbell

By Kincaid JenkinsPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

At your festival I saw you

patiently dealing with us

pacing the stage answering

questions more concerned with

franchises than your career

telling stories you had grown sick of

a tinge of cynicism beneath your

trademark sarcastic responses

asking a little more of your audience

who just wanted more of the same

you looked bored playing buffoons

and cops, studs and legends

wanting to be remembered for more

than splatter operas and

crowd pleasing cameos

tolerating our rabid collective

scavenging through your life

picking out the pieces

we wanted for ourselves

relating to our blue collar hero

who overcame Hollywood

as easily as the dead

a jester born of common stock

hearing now an army of fans cry

“Hail to the King”

and wanting only to put

the King finally to rest
