People of Color

Can’t breathe the air of freedom

Yet we watch them choke.

Sometimes I wonder

What Buddha would say right now

This moment, right here.

Hate isn’t my taste

It’s too bland for my liking

Please pass me the salt.

George Floyd, an angel

Wrapped us tightly with his wings

Then we sang his name.

I’ve been having dreams.

Swimming in the deepest seas

The sharks summoned me.

Pears and bananas

What a strange combo, those two.

Where is the cherry?

The bucket won’t pour

When you water dead flowers

And neglect the seed.

Do you hear that noise?

Listen while the angels sing,

Lord, let us sing too.

You need a new friend.

Luck is one thing you don’t have,

The Devil once cried

For being the way he was,

Yet he never prayed.
