Guilted Cage

A Poem by Glory Anna

What did I do it for? I look back at time… I see all the wrong turns. No reason to rhyme. My path was so clear at one point in my life, when I was still new, and the world had yet to decide why it was wrong to be me the way that I am—unchained and unfettered, out of want, not demand.

All roadblocks were challenges I was eager to face. Now, I can only see the effort for its lack and waste. Is it growth, evolution, or the mass manipulation of man to beat out uniqueness with the need to fit in if you are ever to get noticed, be professional, and legit?

The blood that I gave felt so righteous for its cause, until reality hit, and depression made pause. A snowball effect that had me spiraling for years. Despondent, adrift, and ruled by fears.

What was I fighting if not for myself? Killing me softly, the biggest cry for attention and help. I lost all my pieces, now only fragments remain.

Turns out not only the privileged and gilded are aloof to their cage.
