Grieving Shadows

A Ballad of Sorrow

By Abigail WanjiruPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

In a village under the weeping sky,

In the dark where shadows linger and echoes sigh,

There was a girl with eyes of sadness,

Her heart was weighed down by burdens she could not borrow.

Her days were shrouded in gray.

A silent lament for dreams lost.

Love had gone as the wind that blows away.

A soul to mourn.

She walked along the riverbank,

Where the willows wept and reeds would fence.

Every step a weight, every breath an exhalation.

As she saw her dreams pass by.

At dusk, she would softly cry.

As the stars above their silent vigil still keep.

For the lost love’s echo, a haunting refrain.

A song of grief, a heart that bleeds.

No comfort in the moon’s gentle light.

No relief from the pain that wouldn’t leave.

Only the reverberation of memories, sour and sweet.

As she roamed the night in defeat.

Therefore, to the maiden with eyes of tears.

Whose story of sorrow runs through every day.

Let her heart rest in the darkness of night.

And her tears are washed away by morning light.
