The milky environment wraps its velvet claws around my torso
holding me in subtropical summer sunsets
and for these moments everything becomes a Monet pond
tangled up in reeds and lillies.
Time slows down to the speed of mud in a tepid pool
with horrible green slimy beasts
intent on devouring me.
Lakes of pudding, bubbling around the reeds
slow movement the only type appropriate here
Camouflaged dark green frogs and crickets
chirping and burping from the opposite shore
Lapping the shoreline like a snake
tasting its latest kill
