Green

A poem

Beneath the unrelenting sun,

all victories were worthless,

exhaustion served for each meal,

blossoming pains soon after.

-

Silence for miles, cooking

skin and bone.

The blood was shed for contrast,

a glorious gallery built up

from our fears.

-

No trees and no water,

uneasy mirages, visions distorted,

another one collapsed beneath

his ways, his chosen orders.

-

Far in the distance, you can

just make out the border

but there, on its other side,

every flower is wilting.

-

It was greener on the other side,

but nowadays, nothing’s green.

-

We cherish the red,

and contribute when able

and live with the shakes that come

from a life unstable.

-

All that we slaughtered

leaves stains upon our hands

there’s no freedom left here,

despite expansive lands.
