Green Eyes

In the center of the meadow

In the center of the meadow

In the far edges of the reef

Something stares and lurches

There is a view coming from the deep

From where no one has been

And from where no one will go to

There is a storm and there is a chair

There is a purpose and there is a deception

"No one will see what I have seen,"

He reminded me.

"And that's why you are who you are,"

I replied.

"No, that's why your eyes are green,"

He sighed,

"Because you, you, saw it all along."

Did I see the meadows green?

Did I see the depth of reefs?

Did I cover the terrain, with its lurking creatures?

No, I did not see it all

But I carried inside me each image and memory

Each trauma and miracle

That made me

Me.
