I squeeze her hand and breathe.

Clean smell of sage

reminds my soul of peace.

I turn the page.

But glance up at the peaks

as airplanes rush

to paint a setting sun

with contrail brush.

Warm breezes dance with trees

and ruffle hair.

Two rabbits creep through leaves

and linger there.

The tabby watches them

but does not stalk.

We are at rest tonight,

Too still to talk.

Her hand is soft. I breathe

clean smell of sage.

The night will bring more peace.

I turn the page.
