Gravity
A musing poem about escaping the bonds of gravity
If I could unravel the tether tying me to gravity
Would I arise to float away over a boundless sea?
Glide next to an eagle as it circles its prey
Bounce off a whale surfaced to spray
Mayhap float over forested canopy of green
Spy on lion stalking elk, crouched there unseen
Grab ahold of a rainbow, slide all the way down
Search for gold whence it decorates the ground
Cumulous or stratus, I’d float with the clouds
Dance with lightning where they gather in crowds
Allow a Westerly Wind to escort me to the horizon
Chase Easterly sunbeams, see where they’re risin’
See the globe: Europe, Australia, Africa, Japan
Espy wondrous sights world over in nary a span
Rhapsodize sweet to elephants, kangaroos and pandas
Amazed at the marvels the world does hand us
Old Faithful’s timely erupting of a geyser of silver
Hanging Gardens of Babylon, snip just a sliver
I could fly to London Bridge, partake of pea soup
Dash to the moon for cheese in a scoop
Rinse my hands in a Sea of Tranquility
These and many other ideas entrance me
Slingshot the moon to visit red planet Mars
Set sights on Andromeda, voyage to the stars
Stop off at the Big Dipper for something to drink
Perch on Saturn’s rings whilst ponder and think
Yes, the things I could do if gravity’s tether I could slice
To explore the world and stars tis a dream rather nice
…
But no matter where in the galaxy my mind does float
No matter which of the seven wonders I roam
Nothing else for me wears love like a comfy old coat
So, in the end I’d surely float right back home
