Grave of Innocence

A Poem about Grave of the Fireflies

Fireflies blink, stars on the ground,
Seita and Setsuko, lost and unbound.
Bombs raining down, the world turns to dust,
Kids on their own, no time for trust.

Grumbling bellies, a fear in their eyes,
Empty pockets, beneath tearful skies.
Swiped candy bars, a sugary treat,
Childhood forgotten, can't buy them to eat.

Fireflies dance, free in the night,
A fleeting joy, a firefly's light.
Dreams turn to smoke, like burnt summer leaves,
Leaving just emptiness, hearts that still grieve.

Seita holds tight, a brother so true,
Love's just a candle, flickering through.
Shelter's a bomb-out, a place to pretend,
War's a cold wind, that no love can mend.

Firefly wings, scattered and frail,
A story half-told, whispered on the gale.
Grave of the fireflies, a memory's scar,
A lullaby sung, beneath a bombed-out star.
