Gratitude, Humility, and Surrender
Generational healing
Is that chaga in the corner above
I spent the weekend with others in love
Recovery saved my life and others too
Generational healing was meant for me to do
~
My mother got into recovery after me
Now many others have followed and I see
that number growing all the time
My heart has filled with gratitude overtime
~
My grandpa jumped out of a window to drink
Grandma had locked him in that night, so when he did fall
He was done due to being injured and that brought him to the brink
To quit that addiction before it took everything, his all
~
My children were in the family program growing up
Doesn't mean they too haven't filled a cup
or two. They have benefitted from recovery
as they made the discovery
~
They were young when learning
about freedom from alcoholism, during
their fathers struggles, then death at 46 years old
from alcoholism and drug addiction. They told
me that they could see the end, it was sad, and cold.
~
There were reports his wife may have overdosed
him as there was enough drugs in the autopsy, dosed
to drop an elephant. My hubby now is recovering
for thirty-five years. He has continued the discovering
of life without drugs and alcohol. He is happy, joyous and free.
With my love, and my recovery, I am free to be me.
~
My hubby has four children for a total of seven for he and I
Two of his are in recovery and we stopped by to say Hi.
Then there is one who struggles with addiction, and one has a daughter
addicted, so he and his wife are raising grandson, and granddaughter
~
I surrendered a long time ago. In 1978
I got into the family program early and came late
to sobering up in 1980. Well, I was only 26.
Prior to getting into recovery, I took my licks
~
My sponsor told me that I needed to write a gratitude list
daily, and she didn't tell me why, but I learned the gist
from another. Gratitude helps with self pity.
Then I was told that for me, humility
means that I have to get even with others
everyone was above me with a few below. Oh brothers
yes, I have 4 left. One in recovery, one trying it out
two substituting addictions and then going back out.
~
I love life. I had so much fun this weekend.
I want my life to stay happy, joyous and free
for the rest of my days. Till I am at the end.
Looking forward to more weekends like these - three!
