GOVERNORS OF PARADISE

10/11/2026

This has been brewing for a few days in my notebook.

It began as a self-indictment poem. I didn't know where to go after writing the line "the unholy welcome me with open arms," so I left it alone. A few days later, something I saw on the news inspired the ending. Yesterday, after writing from "I bathe in blood" through "a mile away," the final lines arrived.

This is the metamorphosis that followed.

It may anger a lot of people.

I'm hoping it does.

I HAVE SINS GALORE!

at least a million.

possibly more.

my buried bones,

only I know

where they lie.

When I look down from heaven,

dear Lord,

they are so bad.

To stand before Judgment...

to Hell I would rather descend.

Better to be judged by my peers,

the unholy.

Misbegotten scions of Babel,

look up.

Those sins, from here,

are mere infractions.

Traffic citations,

if you will.

I am the small fish

in the giant sea of misery.

"Misery loves company,"

it is said.

The unholy welcome

with open arms.

Another foolish man.

I bathe in blood.

Revel in the warmth

of children martyred

by their mothers

and fathers.

Your tears fascinate me.

I stare through an eyepiece

a mile away.

Never have I known such joy

at the sight of such power.

Breaking souls

even as I praise God.

You know Him...

right?

Even now,

you bend the knee

to Mammon

and laugh.
