Golden Years Of No Pretence

We lived the life we thought was right and fun

Golden Years Of No Pretence

We used to say exactly what we thought,
We never cared about what others thought,
We laughed when something wasn’t right,
And stayed up talking half the night.

We didn’t need the latest things,
Or chase the dreams that money brings,
A cup of tea and someone near,
Could make a perfect evening here.

We wore our hearts upon our sleeves,
We said goodbye and didn’t grieve,
For friendships came and friendships went,
But every moment felt well spent.

We didn’t have to play a role,
Or hide the feelings in our soul,
We simply were the ones we were,
No masks to hide and no pretence.

We danced in kitchens, sang out loud,
And never cared about the crowd,
We made mistakes and laughed them through,
Because we knew what mattered too.

Those golden years have left their mark,
Like little candles in the dark,
And though the world has changed since then,
I’d live those simple days again.

For growing older teaches you,
The things you thought were false were true,
That happiness was never bought,
It lived inside the love we brought.

So let us keep those years alive,
The honest way we used to thrive,
For golden years are not about age,
They’re moments written on life’s page.
