Going That Way

A Thread That Binds

By Dan R FowlerPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Going That Way

In our world today, just beyond my windows and doors,

Are many groups of people, some are liked, others adored.

In the valleys deep between mountains that touch the sky,

Are relatives and distant family members living their lives.

Perhaps you’ve seen them, those who wait in life,

For the inevitable, the departing, the leaving from sight.

It’s those awaiting their final departure that I speak of,

Who has surrendered all they have for their beloved.

Memories surround them, encamp about them,

Like guardian angels protecting, holding precious gems.

It’s common to those who walk along beside them,

To see things differently, to want what they recommend.

Their lives are not like many in this world,

Who partakes in meaningless jibber jabber twisted or swirled.

The common thread that binds them together,

Is not expensive as one may think but is extremely clever.

When asked what their secret might be,

They speak of mercy and kindness graciously,

It’s not their wealth that has bound them this far,

But an outpouring of grace makes them who they are.

So allow me this penning of words that might entice,

To tell those who are looking for kinder advice.

Take advantage of your days that you have ahead,

Echo reasons for peace clinging to an unbreakable thread.

I sit with most of them from time to time,

When life allows me to keep in touch without costing a dime.

And as I’ve listened to their voices jubilant and gay,

They tell me it’s all because they're going that way.
