The Carve and the Climb

Another day to rise and

begin again. The weights of when, and what if, and why

carried like crosses down a martyr’s lane.

Do not forget the glory of the world evolves

endlessly, that the storied skies are snapshots of

flight: stunning and inevitable in their transformation.

Grab a sword with which to strike out for new

horizons! Do not allow

indecision to prevent the swing of the arm.

Justified the bold stroke would be, to

kill the ones who snip our wings.

Lament the holding cages

masterly crafted by our own hands —

No suffering of the mind occurs without consent.

Oh, to embrace the elevated

possibilities of ourselves! To be

queens and kings of fabled lands!

Reality is an uneasy and treacherous journey;

Stupid, if perceived without hope –

Tepid, if taken without imagination –

Unless you traverse the wild and uncharted paths,

view the stories of old to give

weathered monuments and this present hour a

xyster to scrape the old bone – carving

your painful and magnificent ascent to the

zenith of your unbound rising.

About the Creator

Brooke Farrar

Inspired by Lemony Snicket, who kindled a flame in my childish mind, and I am constantly in awe of Douglas Adams' ability to gather seemingly ordinary words into a confusing bouquet of inspiration and hilarity.
